INDEPENDENCE WITH SECURITY
I was really starting to be concerned with my parents living in their home. Dad could no longer take care of the maintenance of the house himself and hiring somebody to do all the work was unaffordable for them. Mom was also slowing up; she hated cooking three meals a day so they weren’t eating as well as they should have been. I really didn’t think that Dad, now in his late eighties, should be driving any more so they didn’t get to socialize as much as they would have liked. They are very sociable people and were sad to have to quit going to their senior citizen meeting. I asked them to move in with us but they politely refused. As much as they loved my family and me they wanted their privacy and independence. We decided to look into senior living in Decatur, so they would still be close to us. We found a senior community that seems to be just what they need. They offer three meals a day so Mom doesn’t have to worry about cooking. They have many different activities and social events in the community so Mom and Dad can join in to whatever interests them. They still have their independence but also the self-confidence of security monitoring. I am happy that we found a solution that gives us all peace of mind.
