OUR WAY OUT OF DEBT

We thought we were living the American dream. We had two children, a big house, white picket fence, large yard, two cars, and good jobs. All that came into jeopardy when my sixty-year-old husband Bob was laid off his job. His company was sold to a company in Australia and they closed operations in our city. Not wanting to pack up and move to a different country my husband went out looking for a new job. Looking for a new job was really an eye opener. Computers were now doing the work my husband did on the old job. Modern technology outdated his position. At his age, he didn’t think he could learn all the new techniques. His job ended but our bills didn’t end. We were getting deeper into debt. Before we realized it, we were getting debt harassment calls from our creditors. What a mess we were in. We didn’t realize how much we depended on our credit cards. Now they were all maxed out. The children were in college and that was a big money responsibility for us too. Bob finally took a low paying job and went back to school in the evening to further his education. I had to get a second job and slowly am paying off our debts. Hopefully, Bob will be able to find a good job when he is finished with his schooling.
